The Biomedical Research Ethics and Safety Committee at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, held its regular meeting. The Committee is composed of the following members: Prof. Dr. Anas Qusay Hashim – College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University (Chair) Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Rashid Ismail – College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University (Member) Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasaneen Ali Lafta – College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University (Member) Asst. Prof. Dr. Lama Karim Mohammed – College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University (Member) Lect. Dr. Samar Ali Jaber – College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University (Member) Legal Advisor Maysara Saken Khushman – College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University (Member) The meeting focused on discussing mechanisms to enhance compliance with approved ethical standards in biomedical research, in line with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and relevant international standards. The Committee reviewed and evaluated research proposals submitted by faculty members of the department and postgraduate students, emphasizing the protection of the rights and safety of research participants, ensuring the confidentiality of medical data, and obtaining official ethical approvals prior to the commencement of any research activity. The Committee also discussed the importance of promoting a culture of responsible ethical research, particularly in studies involving modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and medical data analysis. It recommended organizing workshops and training courses to raise researchers’ awareness of research ethics.
