As part of the ongoing cooperation between government institutions and the activation of partnerships to achieve common goals, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Engineering at the College of Engineering – Al-Nahrain University organized a field visit on Thursday, October 16, 2025, to the General Company for Electric Power Production / Central Region / Al-Doura Thermal Power Plant. The visit aimed to conduct a field study that contributes to serving the Iraqi community and to gain insight into the practical realities of the plant, as well as the challenges and obstacles that affect its operations.

The visit included a tour of several technical and administrative sections, with a particular focus on the Automatic Control Department, which was selected as the core of the study due to its crucial role in operating and monitoring power generation systems and controlling the overall performance of the generating units. During the visit, Assistant Lecturer Nawras Hussein Abdullah and Assistant Lecturer Shaimaa Muthaffar Hashem met with a number of the plant’s engineering and technical staff. They received a detailed explanation of the operation of the control systems and the stages of automated processes. The discussions also covered the main technical and operational challenges faced by the staff and explored possible scientific solutions to ensure the continuous and efficient production of electric power. This visit comes within the efforts of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Engineering to enhance cooperation between the academic and industrial sectors, and to promote the role of applied research in developing practical and scientific solutions to operational challenges—contributing to the advancement of the electric power sector and the service of the Iraqi community.
