Assistant Professor Dr. Laith Khaled Kamel, a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, published three scientific papers in international journals falling within the first and second quartiles (Q1 and Q2) published by Elsevier. The first paper aimed to investigate the structural behavior of reinforced concrete slab-column connections by incorporating different combinations of normal-strength concrete (NSC), high-strength concrete (HSC), and lightweight concrete (LWC) into the slab and column under the simultaneous effects of gravitational and lateral cyclic loads. This research examines recent developments in the structural performance of plate-column connections, focusing on experimental and computational methodologies.

The third research included research into the role of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets and steel collars in enhancing the strength of column and slab connections exposed to lateral cyclic loads, especially since they are of particular importance for structural safety in earthquake zones.
