As part of the Advanced Urban and Architectural Design course curriculum and in alignment with achieving the fourth goal of sustainable development (Quality Education, SDG-4) and the eleventh goal (Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG-11), Master’s (Preparatory Year) students have launched their second-semester project titled:
"Sustainable Architectural and Urban Development of the Karrada Area."
This initiative was carried out through a scientific field visit to the study area, accompanied by course professors Prof. Shaimaa Hamid Hussein and Prof. Mohammed Qasim Abdulghafour, along with postgraduate students, to observe and analyze the architectural and urban characteristics of the area on-site.
During the visit, Muwaffaq Jawad Al-Taie, an experienced architect and longtime resident of Karrada, provided insights into the historical evolution of the area and its inhabitants over time.
The primary objective of this visit was to instill the four pillars of sustainability (social, environmental, economic, and cultural) in students, recognizing Karrada as a socio-urban heritage that continues to play a vital role in the urban fabric and social life of Baghdad and its residents
