Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering /
University of Nahrain, Professor Dr. (Jumaa Jiyad Salman), and within the
intensive and comprehensive media campaign adopted by the College of
Engineering at the University of Nahrain to eliminate the phenomenon of drug
abuse. The Department of Drone Engineering is holding an educational workshop
entitled (Drugs and their negative impact on the individual and society and
ways to eliminate them). The workshop included two lectures, which are: The first lecture: Delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. (Farhan Ahmed
Khammas) and entitled (The impact of drugs on the family and society .... their
causes, use and how to prevent them) The second lecture: Delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. (Anas Latif
Muhammad) and entitled (Digital drugs, their roots, origins and effects) Summary of a workshop on drugs and their effects on the individual and
society The workshop on drugs was organized to discuss their negative effects on
individuals and societies, and focused on the following points: 1. Definition of drugs: Drugs were defined as chemical substances that
affect the central nervous system and cause changes in the mental or physical
state of a person. 2. Effects of drugs on the individual: o Health effects: Drugs cause chronic diseases such as
liver cirrhosis, kidney failure, respiratory and heart disorders, and may lead
to death. o Psychological and mental effects: They lead to psychological disorders
such as depression, anxiety, and auditory and visual hallucinations. They may
lead to a weakened ability to think and make decisions. o Addiction: Drugs cause addiction, which makes the person constantly
need to obtain the substance, which reinforces the negative cycle of drug
dependence. 3. Effects of drugs on society: o Increased crime: Drug use is linked to increased crime rates, as some
people resort to theft or violence to finance their drug needs. o Economic impact: Drugs cost society huge amounts of money in treating
related diseases and providing medical care, in addition to their negative
impact on productivity at work. o Disintegration of families: Drugs contribute to the destruction of
family and social relationships, leading to major social problems such as
divorce and poverty. 4. Prevention and treatment methods: o Awareness and education: Focus on the importance of spreading
awareness among young people about the risks associated with drug abuse. o Psychological and social support: Providing psychological and social
treatment for addicts, in addition to rehabilitation programs. The most important findings of the workshop: o Strengthening preventive programs in schools and universities. o Supporting scientific research on new methods of treating addiction. o Providing social support to families affected by drugs. Finally, the importance of collective action to combat drugs was
emphasized at all levels: individual, family, and societal.
