Under the auspices of the esteemed Dean of the College of
Engineering and the Head of the Department of Architecture, and as part of the collaborative
project between Al-Nahrain University – Department of Architecture and the University
of Cagliari – College of Environmental, Civil, and Architectural Engineering
entitled (Babylon Legacy: Capacity Building in the Preservation of Traditional
Building Craft Knowledge"), Visiting Professor for the period 11-13
February 2025 Jean-Marie Le Tiec, an expert consultant in earthen architecture
and a teacher at the CRAterre International Center for Earthen Architecture
delivered a lecture on "Construction Techniques in Contemporary Earthen
Architecture Projects." The lecture showcased a wide and diverse range of
international projects that have utilized mud as a primary building material.
It also addressed construction techniques, potentials, challenges, and
obstacles associated with this architectural approach. The event was attended by Professor Dr. Haitham Abdul Hussein
Al-Shammari, Head of the Department of Architecture, along with several faculty
members and students. The discussion was moderated by Assistant Professor Adel
Zamil Munshid, a faculty member in the Department of Architecture.
Jean-Marie Le Tiec, accompanied the Italian delegation from
the University of Cagliari to Al-Nahrain University for the official handover
of the signed Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.
