In the Department of Biomedical Engineering, PhD student Ali Faisal Abdul Karim defended his dissertation on Tuesday, 29th October 2024, titled:

Advanced Modeling System for Bone Deformities Diagnostic and Treatment Based on Infrared Thermal Imaging

The defense committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Iyad Murad Tkakh from the College of Engineering at Al-Nahrain University, with committee members:

  • Associate Professor Dr. Fadel Kareem Farhan from the College of Science, Al-Karkh University for Science
  • Associate Professor Dr. Hala Salman Hussein from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University
  • Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Fawzi Muhammad Kazem from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University

The dissertation was supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Anas Qusay Hashim and specialist physician Tariq Jassim Muhammad from Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City.

The scientific review was conducted by:

  • Primary reviewer, Professor Dr. Israa Badr Nasser from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University
  • Secondary reviewer, Associate Professor Dr. Buraq Yahya Kazem from the College of Science, Al-Karkh University for Science

The linguistic review was done by Associate Professor Dr. Salman Ala Aid Jabr from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Al-Nahrain University.

The study aims to design a novel technique for diagnosing flatfoot using infrared emissions from the sole of the foot and treating the condition with a hybrid interactive insole incorporating smart nitinol wires. The dissertation was accepted as it met the requirements for the PhD degree.
