The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering - Al-Nahrain University, under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Jumaa Salman Jiad, organized a scientific workshop on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, held in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit and titled:

“The Role of Biomedical Engineers in Community Awareness for Early Breast Cancer Detection”

The workshop began with a welcome address to the esteemed attendees. Representing the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Jumaa Salman, was the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haitham Alaa Hussein, along with the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nasir Aboud Issa. The workshop was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Qusay Hashem, Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department, several department heads from the College of Engineering, faculty members, staff, and students.

The workshop featured two lectures delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Aydan Kamel Mohammed from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering, Al-Khwarizmi University of Baghdad, and Biomedical Engineer Raghad Rasool Abdul Latif, MSc. The event, which aligns with the department's scientific activity plan for the current academic year, aimed to highlight the vital role of biomedical engineers in raising awareness about breast cancer, its causes, symptoms, and early detection methods, emphasizing the importance of this topic for women's health in Iraq.

The workshop included an educational video on the importance of early detection, steps for self-examination, and information on medical centers providing routine screenings. The event concluded with insightful discussions among faculty from the department and other scientific departments in the college, along with graduate and undergraduate students, followed by the honoring of the lecturers.
