The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Al-Nahrain University held a discussion for PhD candidate Mohammed Hassan Alwan on Thursday, October 24, 2024, regarding his dissertation titled: "Thermal Imaging System Design for Breast Cancer Detection." The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Ziad Tariq Mohammed Al-Dahan from Al-Bayan University, with membership including Professor Dr. Huda Ali Rasool from the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University; Assistant Professor Dr. Anwar Abdul Sattar Abdul Razzaq from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, Laser Engineering Department; Assistant Professor Dr. Noor Kamal Mohsen from the Biomedical Engineering Department, Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, University of Baghdad; and Assistant Professor Dr. Fatima Hameed Rajab from the Laser Engineering Department, College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University. The dissertation was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Qusay Hashem from the Biomedical Engineering Department at Al-Nahrain University and Professor Dr. Haider Hamza Ubaid from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad. The scientific review was conducted by Assistant Professor Dr. Taghreed Khalid Hamad from the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fadel Karim Farhan from the College of Science, Al-Karkh University of Science, while linguistic review was performed by Dr. Salman Majid Salman from the Biomedical Engineering Department, Al-Nahrain University. The study aimed to design and implement a thermal imaging system capable of detecting breast cancer at early stages, overcoming the limitations of other techniques by simulating the thermal representation of tumorous tissue within the body. The dissertation was accepted, fulfilling the requirements for a PhD degree.
