As part of its commitment
to strengthening collaboration between academic and industrial institutions,
the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering at the College of
Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, conducted a scientific visit to Al-Warith Dirman
Center for Prosthetics in the holy city of Karbala on Wednesday,
October 30, 2024. The primary goal of the visit was to provide
students with hands-on experience in the field of smart prosthetics
manufacturing and to familiarize them with the latest technologies used in this
domain. The visiting members from
the department, which included faculty members and third- and fourth-year
students, received a warm welcome from the center's management. They toured
various departments of the center, observing the manufacturing stages of
prosthetics—from design and measurement to final assembly and fitting. They
also visited specialized workshops equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and
tools. During the visit, the
Assistant Director of the center highlighted its international partnerships
with leading global prosthetics companies, such as Blatchford
from the UK and Ottobock from Germany. He emphasized the
significance of these collaborations in transferring modern technology and
enhancing the skills of the center’s workforce. At the end of the visit,
both parties stressed the importance of strengthening mutual cooperation
through the exchange of expertise, joint research projects, reciprocal visits,
and the organization of specialized workshops and training programs.
The Department of
Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering at Al-Nahrain University is dedicated to
integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, consistently
striving to provide its students with the best opportunities to stay up-to-date
of the latest advancements in their field.
